Policies & Terms
Booking and Payment
- A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to reserve your spot.
- The remaining balance is due 14 days before your scheduled hike.
- Bookings are confirmed only after the deposit has been received.
- Group size is limited to 6 guests per expedition. Early booking is recommended.
Cancellation Policy
- 30+ days before the hike: Full refund minus a $25 processing fee.
- 14 - 29 days before the hike: 50% refund of the total trip cost.
- Less than 14 days before the hike: No refund. You may transfer your booking to another person at no additional charge.
- No-shows: No refund.
- We encourage all guests to purchase trip insurance to protect against unexpected cancellations, travel delays, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Weather and Guide Cancellations
- If Deliberate Pace Guiding cancels a hike due to severe weather, unsafe trail conditions, or other safety concerns, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule at no additional cost.
- Light rain, overcast skies, and cool temperatures are normal conditions in both Appalachia and Southeast Alaska. We hike in these conditions and do not cancel for mild weather.
- The guide reserves the right to modify the itinerary, change trails, or shorten a hike at any time based on conditions or group safety.
Assumption of Risk
Hiking and outdoor activities involve inherent risks including but not limited to:
- Uneven, rocky, or slippery terrain
- Wildlife encounters (bears, snakes, insects)
- Rapidly changing weather conditions
- Physical exertion and fatigue
- Remote locations with limited access to emergency services
All guests are required to sign a liability waiver and assumption of risk agreement before participating in any expedition. By booking a hike, you acknowledge that you understand these risks and choose to participate voluntarily.
Health and Fitness
- Guests are responsible for accurately representing their fitness level and any medical conditions when booking.
- Please inform us of any allergies, medications, or health concerns that may affect your participation.
- The guide reserves the right to exclude a participant from a hike if their condition poses a safety risk to themselves or the group.
Leave No Trace
- All guests are expected to follow Leave No Trace principles.
- Pack out everything you bring in.
- Stay on designated trails.
- Respect wildlife and other visitors.
- Deliberate Pace Guiding reserves the right to end a hike early if a guest repeatedly disregards Leave No Trace practices or guide instructions.
Photography and Media
- Deliberate Pace Guiding may take photos during hikes for use on the website, social media, and promotional materials.
- If you prefer not to be photographed, please let us know before the hike begins.
